CHALLENGE

My client accepted a job in another city. She needed help prepping her apartment for sale so she could start her new life in her new home.

SOLUTION

Following her realtor’s advice to “declutter and depersonalize” we cleared surfaces, tucked away personal items and extraneous decor, and organized closets and cabinets.

By showcasing her amazing views and ample storage, the apartment showed well and sold for a sizable profit.

LESSONS LEARNED

1) Clear the clutter - People want to enter a space that feels open and inviting, not cramped and crowded.

2) Minimize personal items - You want people envisioning themselves living in your home, not feeling overwhelmed by your memories or critiquing your decor.

3) Remember to organize “behind closed doors” - Yes, people will open your closets and cabinets! Overcrowded spaces lead people to question whether they will have enough storage space.

4) Consider offsite storage - You may want to move low-use, off-season and holiday items to a storage facility during the sales process if you need to free up space.
